PricewaterhouseCoopers employees train to be Mentors:
As part of PricewaterhouseCoopers involvement in the Stars programme, ten PwC employees were trained how to be a Mentor this month. With this new initiative, PwC employees will be mentoring the Year and 12 Peer Mentors at ASDAH in Mangere over the course of the school year. We are looking to expand the initiative into other regions where PwC has offices in 2009.
Training provided staff with information and resources on mentoring theory, techniques and youth issues, as well as practical opportunities to role play how to work with adolescents.
One participant said "the trainers were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic (about the cause). They helped us learn from our experience, by asking us to think about and reflect on our own experiences. This course has made me aware of the fact that I do not only give something back to the community from joining Stars, but that I will also be taking away a lot at the end of my experience."
PwC employees will work with students once a month on topics such as goal-setting, career planning and team-work, as well as supporting them as they take on leadership roles within the school as Peer Mentors to the Year 9 students.
Marie-Jo Wilson, Stars National Manager says: "PricewaterhouseCoopers employees have a great deal to offer these students in terms of their life life experiences, skills, knowledge and drive. They are fantastic role models for our young people and we are really excited to have them on board supporting the Stars programme this year."
